В статье делается попытка реконструкции мифологического образа «Рогатого Пастуха» на основе обобщения типологически близкого материала, который относится к разным этническим культурам. Показано, что этот персонаж может быть непосредственно связан с наиболее архаичными мифопоэтическими представлениями, которые восходят к периоду верхнего палеолита, и продолжают существовать в культуре ХХІ века.
The theme of the article is the comparative study of the numerous horned deities of European and Indian cultures, such as the Harappan “Proto-Shiva”, the Celtic Cernunnos, the Slavic Veles, the Greek Pan and his Roman analogues, the Cretan Minotaur and others. One of the results is the reconstruction of the complex double image of the “Horned Hunter” and the “Horned Herdsman”. This deity is seen as a representative of an extremely archaic mythic complex, connected with the concepts of death / regeneration, circulation of the cosmic energies and the treasures of the Otherworld. It has some relics of the shamanic practice and mythology, which was quite widespread in Europe. It is possible that in the beginning such an image could represent Being in all its totality. With the Christianization the semantics of the image was changed because of the contamination with the devil-figures. Still, in some cultures (for example, in Britain) the elements of the ancient lore were preserved till modern times, and were inherited by such new literary genres as fantasy and mythic fiction.
