В статье говорится о первых шагах в творческом становлении украинского театра корифеев, которые нашли свое отражение на страницах периодических изданий конца XIX- начала XX веков. В статті йдеться про становлення та розвиток українського професійного театру корифеїв, щи знайшло відображення на шпальтах періодичних видань кінця XIX- початку XX ст.. The unique Ukrainian luminaries theater is described in the article. Having started its creative development it met all the hardships and privations. Prohibitions and persecution, restrictions of Ukrainian language, literature, and drama took place under the ordinances and decrees of the imperial powers (Valuev Circular, Ems decree) and seriously hampered the development of Ukrainian national spirit in the XIX century. In turn this caused the reaction of Ukrainian intelligentsia which provoked the opposition of the Ukrainian people on the national and cultural revival in the second half of the XIX century. One evidence of this was the emergence of luminaries theater which became very popular among his admirers even at the beginning of its career in the 80s of the XIX century . Not being able to open a special theater building in major Ukrainian cities leading figures had to perform in the provinces of the Russian Empire. On the other hand this enabled cities like Ekaterinoslav , Novocherkassk, Kherson, Poltava, Odessa, Kharkiv and others to accustom to the Ukrainian theater culture. The increased interest to the leading figures from the local public in above mentioned cities is characterised of a large percentage of Ukrainian population. However, this is not the opposite of professionalism of Ukrainian artists as the periodical press of the late XIX-early XX centuries shows. The article is based on the facts presented in newspapers such as: " Odessa bulletin", " Odessa News ", "Theatre", " Novorossiysk Telegraph ", "Russian Discourse " and other publications .
