The article analyses the controversial history
of the Black Sea Region in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Based on the data of Ibn Bibi chronicle and
Byzantine sources it concludes that the Sudak War
was waged between the Great Komnenos Dynasty
of the Empire of Trabizond and the Seljuq Dynasty
of the Sultanate of Rum. The Sudak War happened
around 1230. Participation of Saqsins, Qipchaqs
and Ruthenians in this war is Ibn Bibi’s invention.
The article provides evidence that the сities of Russiyah
and Khazariya are al-Idrisi’s invention.
