The results of complex investigation of 30 types of drinking packed water applying biotesting method, chemical and microbiological analysis are summarized. Chemical composition of water of the prevailing brands with the exception of rear cases met the standards accepted for drinking water. In most packed water types the high toxicity was not detected for animal and plant test-organisms; during chronic experiments the picture is different — practically all samples displayed toxic properties. The three fourth of the investigated water types evidently caused increase of nuclear abnormality in the cells thus stipulating genotoxic effects. It’s expedient to apply biotesting for complex evaluation of drinking water quality, including packed water, together with standard methods of chemical and biological analysis. Наведено результати комплексного дослідження 30-ти питних фасованих вод методами біотестування, хімічного та мікробіологічного аналізів. Хімічний склад вод найпоширеніших торговельних марок, за рідкісним винятком, відповідає стандартам, прийнятим для питної води. У більшій частині фасованих вод не виявлено гострої токсичності як для тваринних, так і рослинних тест-організмів; у хронічних експериментах, навпаки - практично всі зразки виявили токсичні властивості. Три чверті досліджених вод вірогідно спричинювали збільшення частоти ядерних порушень у клітинах, тобто зумовлювали генотоксичні ефекти. Біотестування доцільно застосовувати для комплексної оцінки якості питних, у тому числі фасованих, вод разом зі стандартними методами хімічного та мікробіологічного аналізів.
