Visnyk of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine| Zusammenfassung: | The article focuses on the fact that the constant growth of anthropogenic pressure on the planet's water resources, the increase in fresh water consumption in combination with global warming and climate changes turn the problem of drinking water deficit into a full-blown global crisis. The so-called water conflicts related to the use of transnational water resources accompany the entire history of mankind, but in the current conditions they threaten to become the main element of the political life in the XXI century. There are increasing risks for such conflicts to escalate into armed confrontations over access to water resources, in particular between nuclear weapon states. The authors consider the threats of water conflicts for Ukraine and emphasize the need to take these challenges into account in modern systems of international and national security.
