Visnyk of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine| Резюме: | The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2022 was awarded to Swedish paleogeneticist, specialist in the field of evolutionary genetics, director of the Department of Genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig (Germany) Professor Svante Pääbo for "for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution". Explaining the importance of S. Pääbo’s works, the Nobel Committee noted that "he developed methods for analysis and recovering of ancient DNA. In ancient bones, DNA degrades, becomes chemically modified, and is massively contaminated by contact with bacteria and humans handling the specimens. Using available technologies as they develop, S. Pääbo created his own methods for refined analysis of ancient DNA". |
