Metal and Casting of Ukraine| Резюме: | The appearance of mini-mills of different capacity in the segment of long and flat rolled steel shows the strong trends of their high competitiveness and flexibility. It is to be expected that metallurgical mini-production as a technological system will develop along the path of greater market fragmentation through the construction of more compact enterprises with limited capacity. In this case, the fragmentation of the market for the mini-mill into even smaller segments, the so-called micro-mills, allows, first of all, to reduce financial risks. It is known that the small local market is quite predictable and it is always easier to find sales for small batches of products. The compactness and high level of greening of new businesses to the limit reinforce all the benefits of mini-mills. In this case, there is an opportunity to locate factories in the immediate vicinity of the place of consumption. For small factories, small orders of magnitude appear to be quite important, as their execution is very fast, and transport and warehousing costs are minimal.
The specifics of work of small metallurgical plants turn into popular flexible quasi-inertia-free methods of steel finishing, including the use of electromagnetic effects, which provides forced mixing of metal, its heating and supply (dosing) in the mold. The most promising technological construction for the production of thin sheet is a mini-metallurgical plants, which use casting and rolling modules. It is to be expected that such plants will become increasingly widespread. At the same time as new competitive advantages should be considered rolling the sheet with almost no additional heating of the workpiece.
Due to the relatively small production volumes and small batches of cast steel, in the mini-mill conditions additional possibilities for the use of original machines and units for casting steel, which allow to obtain a workpiece close to the end of the finished products, are available. Such continuous casting machines (CCM) and semi continuous casting machines (SCCM) include horizontal machines for casting round and square billets of a small section, as well as casting and rolling modules. |
