Cold-rolled steel with protective coatings combines the strength and workability (formability) of steel with the corrosion resistance of the protective coating. Therefore, its share in the total production of thin sheet products in the world reaches 85 %. Significant capacities for the production of rolled steel products have been established in Ukraine as well. However, these capacities are underused or almost never used. The work is devoted to the analysis of the structure of consumption and production of cold-rolled products with protective coatings in Ukraine, to determine the reasons for low capacity utilization and to find opportunities to eliminate them. To solve this problem the results of statistical surveys of production and consumption of this type of products over the past 10 years were used. It is established that the actual load capacity for the production of rolled zinc and polymer coatings does not exceed respectively 20–25 and 10–15 %, and most of the consumption of these types of products is due to imports (respectively about 50 and more than 91 %). The main problem of low load of domestic units for coating is the lack of technical capabilities in Ukraine to obtain cold-rolled products less than 0.5 mm thick, which is in high demand in the market. In order to successfully solve this problem, two new cold rolling mills in the country need to be built, one – two-cell reverse mill with a barrel length of 1400 mm and another– five-cell continuous mill with a length of barrel of 1700 mm with a total annual capacity of 1.5 – 2.0 million tons. It is also necessary to build small businesses for further processing of rolled products. The tendencies of development of assortment of production and consumption of cold-rolled products with protective coatings are considered.
