| description | In 2020, it will mark 90 years since the founding of the Mariupol Metallurgical Institute (currently – SHEI “PSTU”). The first graduation of metallurgical engineers took place in 1933. Over the past period, the Faculty of Metallurgy trained about 14 thousand highly qualified specialists, including the Department of Steel Metallurgy – more than 4 thousand steelmaking engineers, 128 doctors and candidates of sciences.
The problems associated with the professional education of specialists (bachelors and masters) in the field of ferrous metallurgy are considered. Specialty 136 "Metallurgy" is formed according to the production principle, it includes technologies that are completely different in nature. This creates additional problems and requires training in specializations appropriate for specific technologies, in the context of a constant shortage of students (over the past 10 years, the number of full-time students has decreased by almost 5 times).
The reasons for the outflow of students are considered, among there are the versatility of technical universities with technical specialties, the unreasonably high number of higher educational institutions in Ukraine in a demographic decline.
All this affected the quality of training of specialists and, especially, masters. According to Metinvest LLC, after the education reform, the quality of specialists' education decreased by 20–25 %.
In Ukraine, the number of higher educational institutions significantly exceeds the needs of its economy. The priority area of state funding for higher education should be technical universities. The number of technical and humanitarian universities must be balanced with the needs of the country's economy. The cost of training bachelors and masters should be reviewed in the direction of increasing funding for technical universities. A state strategy for the development of higher education is needed. When preparing masters it is necessary to pay special attention to individual work with them, taking into account basic education and the direction of their further production activities. |

У 2020 році виповниться 90 років з дня заснування Маріупольського металургійного інституту (нині – ДВНЗ «ПДТУ»). Перший випуск інженерів-металургів відбувся в 1933 році. За минулий період металургійним факультетом було підготовлено близько 14 тисяч висококваліфікованих фахівців, в тому числі кафедрою «Металургія сталі» – понад 4 тис. інженерів-сталеплавильників, 128 докторів і кандидатів наук. Розглянуто проблеми, пов'язані з професійною підготовкою фахівців (бакалаврів і магістрів) в галузі чорної металургії. Спеціальність 136 «Металургія» сформовано за виробничим принципом, вона включає в себе технології абсолютно різнорідні за своєю суттю. Це створює додаткові проблеми і вимагає навчання за спеціалізаціями, що відповідають конкретним технологіям, в умовах постійного недобору студентів (за останні 10 років кількість студентів денної форми скоротилося майже в 5 разів). Розглянуто причини відтоку студентів, серед них – багатопрофільність технічних університетів з технічними спеціальностями, необґрунтовано велика кількість в Україні вищих навчальних закладів в умовах демографічного спаду. Все це позначилося на якості підготовки фахівців і, особливо, магістрів. На думку ТОВ «Метінвест», після реформи освіти якість підготовки фахівців знизилася на 20–25 %. В Україні кількість вищих навчальних закладів значно перевищує потреби її економіки. Пріоритетним напрямом державного фінансування вищої школи повинні стати технічні університети. Кількість технічних і гуманітарних університетів повинна бути збалансована з потребами економіки країни. Вартість навчання бакалаврів і магістрів повинна бути переглянута в бік збільшення фінансування технічних вузів. Необхідна державна стратегія розвитку вищої школи. При підготовці магістрів необхідно приділяти особливу увагу індивідуальній роботі з ними з урахуванням базової освіти та напрями їх подальшої виробничої діяльності.
