Резюме:The article presents the main scientific achievements and research priorities of the Department of Cast Iron Metallurgy (DCIM) of the Iron and Steel Institute of Z.I. Nekrasov of the NAS of Ukraine (ISI) from its inception to the present. The founder of the DCIM was Academician Mikhail Vlasovich Lugovtsov. He developed the statistical theory of the domain process that based on the principles of the theory of heat flow, methods of mathematics, mechanics, and physical chemistry. This theory described quantitatively the processes of domain melting. Academician Zot Ilyich Nekrasov made a great contribution to the development of the theory and practice of domain production. Directions of intensification of the domain process through the use of natural gas, combined blasting and injection of pulverized coal (PC) into a blast furnace, substantiating the possibilities and building largescale blast furnaces, improving the raw material base of blast furnace production have determined the development of the industry for many decades and have not lost their relevance even now. Thanks to Zot Ilyich, an excellent laboratory base was created in the ISI for research, which was not inferior to the best world ones at that time. DCIM domain workers worked at all the largest metallurgical enterprises of the USSR and made a great contribution to the development of many areas of blast furnace production. The results of this work were the basis for the development of new technologies and materials and contributed to strengthening the authority of Soviet metallurgy in the world. The article lists the most significant developments of DCIM scientists in the Soviet period. The research results, which are performed in the division today, develop and expand these areas, taking into account the requirements for the quality of the final product and modern fuel and raw materials conditions in which the metallurgy of Ukraine operates. Specialists of the department develop recommendations to increase its efficiency and reduce resource and energy intensity based on a systematic analysis of the processes and prospects for the development of blast furnace production. Particular attention is paid to the extension of the blast furnace campaign, the development of technologies for their stable operation in stationary and non-stationary melting conditions, the improvement of the technology of pelletizing iron ore and coast iron smelting based on the management of metallurgical properties of charge materials, including those with a high content of secondary resources, development and implementation scientific and practical foundations of technology for the effective application of PC.ф
