Досліджено хімічні сполуки кисню в чавунах і сталях із залученням петрографічного, рентгеноспектрального та інших методів аналізу. Встановлено, що в сталях і чавунах кисень утворює не тільки вищі оксиди, але і нижчі – субоксиди (AlO, Al2O, SiO, Mg2O тощо). Наявність субоксидної форми кисню в чавунах має велике значення не тільки в плані визначення загального вмісту кисню, але, що більш важливо, в формуванні морфології включень графіту і структури металу.
