Metal and Casting of Ukraine| Zusammenfassung: | This paper presents the results of studies analyzing the effectiveness of using brake pads made of cast iron and composite rubber mixture on railway rolling stock. The mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, and operational characteristics of composite brake pads with cast iron inserts were also compared. It is shown that a significant disadvantage of composite pads compared to cast iron pads is the absence in the technical specifications for composite rubber pads of requirements for the percentage content of its components and their technical composition, and even requirements for the chemical composition and properties of cast iron inserts in the friction element of composite pads. It is emphasized that equipping composite brake pads with cast iron inserts does not remedy the situation with the relatively low thermal conductivity of composite brake pads, but has significantly increased their price. The results of a study of the causes, mechanism and consequences of the formation of defects on the rolling surface of wheels during their friction against vehicle wheels are presented. Irrefutable evidence is provided that composite brake pads contribute to damage to the working surface of railway rolling stock wheels, which increases the railway's operating costs for dismantling, installation and repair of wheel sets. Defects on the rolling surface of wheels caused by interaction with composite brake pads also have a negative impact on railway rails. The constant increase in the price of composite brake pads has a negative effect on the economic performance of the railway. |
