The density of opal matrices has been found experimentally to decrease (whereas their porosity increases) with their growth in diameter within 70 to 2200 nm. We propose a model of particle structure designed as a dense primary core and concentric secondary shells terminated by layers of dense primary particles. A model has been proposed for the micelle structure of colloidal silica in an alcohol-water-ammonia medium. |
