Food Industry Economics| Summary: | The purpose of the study is to verify the assumption that the export of Ukrainian grain products is excessive. For this purpose, the following research objectives have been formulated: determination of quantitative parameters of the distribution of Ukrainian grain products between the domestic and foreign markets, establishing the causes and consequences of the increase in the export of Ukrainian grain products, carrying out international comparisons of grain export volumes. The following research methods were used: series of dynamics, average values, statistical graphs, comparisons. It has been established that there is a stable trend of directing Ukrainian grain products to export and reducing their use in the domestic market. It has been found that the main reasons for this are: decrease in domestic demand for grain products, steadily growing global demand for grain. The consequences of the increase in grain exports have been substantiated: growth of foreign exchange earnings, violation of sectorial proportions, emergence of seasonal deficits in livestock markets, development of monoculture, growth of rural unemployment, reduction of domestic grain processing, loss of added value, deployment of «Dutch disease» in the agricultural sector of the economy. Due to international comparisons, it was established that Ukraine has the lowest rate of use of grain products on the domestic market in all directions per capita compared to developed countries with a surplus grain balance. The scientific novelty of the study are: clarifying the reasons and consequences of the increase in the export of Ukrainian grain products; proposals for the indicator «use of grain products on the domestic market in all directions per capita compared to developed countries with a surplus grain balance» to justify the excess of Ukrainian grain exports. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of its use as a theoretical and methodological justification of the urgent need to form an organizational and economic mechanism of the sectorial (domestic) value chain in the agro-food production of Ukraine.
