The following methods have been used: abstract and logical (theoretical generalizations, formulation of conclusions), systematic approach, method of structural-logical generalization, statistical and graphic methods. Based on a critical analysis of scientific literature, the author's definition of sustainable development of the tourist and recreation system of the region has been given. It has been proposed to generalize the types of diversity of cultural and ethnic tourism on the basis of distinguishing such types as cultural-ethnic tourism itself, for which such subspecies as nostalgic, genealogical, cognitive, and ethnographic tourism, which includes Jailoo tours, anthropological, aboriginal subspecies, have been highlighted. The main tangible and intangible objects of the cultural heritage of Dnipropetrovsk region have been considered, and the presence of significant underutilized tourist potential of the multi-ethnic region has been proved. It has been noted that the Petrykivka local community has the highest cultural and ethnic potential as the center of the Petrykivsky’s paintings and the place of the largest concentration of traditional farms. The main orientations of the development of cultural and ethnic tourism in the Dnipropetrovsk region have been summarized, among which the natural (recreational and health potential), ethnic (ethnic estates, museums, folk crafts) and cultural (sacred objects and other cultural landscapes) directions have been distinguished. It has been determined that the advantages of the spread of cultural and ethnic tours in the Dnipropetrovsk region can be inclusion in the historical-architectural and cultural-ethnic heritage of the Ukrainians; familiarization with local natural and landscape features, recreational resources; participation in traditional rites, familiarization with crafts, ecological farm products. Стаття присвячена обґрунтуванню значення культурного та етнічного туризму для підвищення туристичної привабливості Дніпропетровської області в умовах сталого розвитку регіональної туристично-рекреаційної системи. На підставі критичного аналізу наукової літератури наведено авторське визначення сталого розвитку туристично-рекреаційної системи регіону. Запропоновано узагальнити видове різноманіття культурного та етнічного туризму на основі виокремлення таких типів, як власне культурно-етнічний туризм та етнографічний туризм. Розглянуто основні матеріальні та нематеріальні об’єкти культурної спадщини Дніпропетровщини, доведено наявність значного недостатньо реалізованого туристичного потенціалу поліетнічного регіону. Узагальнено основні орієнтири розвитку культурно-етнічного туризму Дніпропетровської області, серед яких виокремлено природний (рекреаційно-оздоровчий потенціал), етнічний (етносадиби, музеї, народні ремесла) та культурний (сакральні об’єкти та інші культурні ландшафти) напрями.
