Description
Summary:The article studies the current state of Ukraine's foreign trade in plant products, including the features of the commodity structure in terms of commodity groups, commodity items, and commodity subitems. The work is based on the extensive use of statistical information, as well as statistical techniques and methods. The dynamics and structure of exports, as well as the financial results of foreign trade, have been analyzed. It was found that starting from 2011-2015, when the share of plant products amounted to 51.1% of all agri-food exports, this process only intensified and in 2022-2024 reached 55.3% and 31.7% of all commodity exports of the state, respectively. Plant products in wartime are the country's main export commodity, both in terms of export revenue and surplus. Since the main resource in the export of plant products is agriculture, the work examines the dynamics of the production of grains, oilseeds, as well as potatoes, vegetables, and fruit and berry crops, and the ability of producers to ensure a certain level of exports. An in-depth analysis of the commodity structure of exports allows us to establish the limited range of goods at each level of specification, which is directly related to agricultural production, the availability of storage facilities equipped for storing the grown crop and negatively affects exports and imports by commodity groups (primarily 06, 07, 08). In recent years, there has been a trend towards a reduction in exports and an increase in imports - these are net importers. The decrease in exports is explained by insufficient production (commodity group 06) and the inability to use the grown crop (commodity groups 07,08) due to significant losses, reaching 40-60%. Ukraine is the world's 3rd potato producer, in 2021-2024 it imported 258.0 thousand tons while exporting 90.4 thousand tons. It is in these commodity groups that a negative balance is formed, which affects the result across the entire agri-food complex. The conclusions provide the authors' view on the possibilities of increasing exports and reducing imports of plant products.
