Description
Summary:The article examines the complex impact of contact tourism and hippotherapy on an individual’s psycho-emotional state, as well as the possibilities of integrating these practices into regional strategies for sustainable tourism development. Contact tourism, which involves interaction with animals in natural or semi-natural environments, is presented as an effective mechanism for emotional stabilization, reducing anxiety levels, increasing stress resilience, and fostering empathetic skills. Hippotherapy, based on therapeutic interaction with a horse, complements the tourism component with medical and psychological dimensions, providing positive effects on sensorimotor coordination, emotional balance, and cognitive functions. The article outlines how the combination of hippotherapy and contact tourism forms new wellness models that can be incorporated into regional tourism policies. Special attention has been given to the analysis of the zoо-tourism potential of the Odesa region, where existing facilities have the capacity to serve as a foundation for the development of therapeutic and emotionally oriented tourism. The proposed management approaches justify the necessity of integrating these forms of activity into territorial sustainable development strategies, as they contribute not only to enhancing the region’s tourism attractiveness but also to supporting population mental health, developing inclusive practices, and expanding the local economy. The article formulates promising directions for integrating contact tourism and hippotherapy into public administration, encompassing environmental responsibility, social stability, and economic efficiency as key components of modern regional policy.
