Summary:The paper reviews various aspects of the formation and stabilization of light-sensitive colloidal semiconductors, especially metal chalcogenides (sulfides, selenides, and tellurides) and oxides, which can be used as photocatalysts of redox-reactions. Special attention is paid not to preparative details of nanophotocatalyst synthesis but rather to physical and chemical processes of nanoparticle nucleation, growth, and stabilization, as well as control of the size, optical, electro-ophysical, and photocatalytic properties of semiconductor colloids.
