Summary:Changes in the oxidation state of silver and manganese doped single crystal lithium tetraborate (LTB) induced by high-dose irradiation were monitored by photoluminescence and optical absorption spectroscopy. For LTB:Mn, a recharging was revealed of Mn according to schemes Mn2+ hν®Mn3+ + е or Mn2+ hν ® + hole → Mn3+. In the case of LTB:Ag, the reducing of Ag+ to Ag0 with following creation of  nAg0 nanoparticlies was observed. Spectrally-resolved TL spectra evidenced that Mn2+ and Ag+ ions were the recombination emitting centres.
