Surface| Summary: | A simple and effective method of synthesis of hollow nanospheres from the mixture of titanium dioxide and silicon dioxide has been proposed. In this method the synthesis of hollow spheres was performed on the surface of aerosol particles of solutions produced by dissolving of silicon tetrachloride and titanium tetrachloride in hydrophobic solvents.
The fabricated hollow spheres were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, thermal analysis and analysis of N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms. The effect of titanium tetrachloride content on morphology, porosity and average pore sizes, and specific surface of the fabricated spheres was evaluated. The data on photocatalytic activity of the fabricated SiO2/TiO2 hollow spheres were compared for various concentrations of TiO2. In this comparative study the process of photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue under ultraviolet and visible light irradiation was used as a model reaction. |
