KOSTROMINA (to the 100th anniversary of her birth) Antraptseva, Nadiya Trunova, Olena Koval, Larysa inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, complex compounds, rare earth elements, d-metals, complexones, phthalocyanines, clathrochelates. The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of N.A. Kostromina, a professor, doctor of chemical sciences, widely known to the scientific community both in Ukraine and abroad. The article highlights the main stages of Kostromina’s life: facts of biography, education, the period of her formation as a chemist, especially in the field of inorganic, organic, coordination and bioinorganic chemistry, the fundamental research results achieved by her and her students and followers, which relate to the chemistry of complex compounds of rare-earth elements in aqueous solutions, in particular the influence of electronic structure on the properties of complex compounds of rare-earth elements, the study of the patterns of complex formation of f- and d-metals with complexones, oxyacids and β-diketones in solutions, the development and application of physical methods for the study and analysis of complex multicomponent, including biological, systems. The spectrographic method,  developed by N. Kostromina, K. Yatsymirsky, T. Ternova, etc., when studying the complexation of REE allows directly determining the number of complexes in solution and their stability constants, and was further developed in the direction of studying systems containing up to 11 rare-earth elements without their separation, along bands that do not overlap in different regions of the spectrum with high resolution. The spectrographic method has a number of advantages over the spectrophotometric method. It is recognized and used by scientists in our country and abroad. N. Kostromina’s scientific baggage includes 6 monographs, over 300 scientific articles, 15 author’s certificates; fifteen of her students defended their candidate theses, and one of them has a doctorate in chemical sciences. For her services in the development of chemical science, training of scientific personnel, and active participation in public life, N.A. Kostromina has been repeatedly awarded with Honorary Certificates of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and diplomas of the Exhibition of achievements of the national economy for applied developments. Among the first women of Kyiv, she was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, III degree.
