Tooling materials science| Summary: | The structures and properties of bimetallic compounds of dissimilar metals obtained by friction stir welding (FSW) were studied. Systems with unlimited (Ni-Cu) and limited (Cu-Fe) solubility, as well as the absence of solubility (Al-Fe) of the components in the solid state are investigated. By friction stir welding, were obtained qualitative compounds with mutual penetration of one metal into another. The main role in this process is the mechanical mixing of metals and grinding of the structure. The diffusion processes are insignificant. In the process of welding, there is a significant grinding of the grain both in the recrystallization zone and in the zones of thermomechanical and thermal influence.As a result of friction stir welding of aluminum with iron, a zone of considerable volume was formed with penetration of aluminum into iron to a depth of 2.5 mm. In this case, the interaction of metals takes place: mass transfer primarily of aluminum and the subsequent formation of the compounds F2Al7, FeAl2.The results of the conducted investigations allow us to recommend this welding method for obtaining bimetallic compounds of dissimilar metals having different solubility of the elements in the solid state |
