BRAS make dynamically developing direction of the radio access, allowing to create the fixed wireless network of scale of city, area and region, and also to be integrated into a multimedia high-speed cable network as radiomeans of «last mile». На даний час цілком сформувався окремий вид безпроводових телекому­нікацій — системи широкосмугового радіодоступу (СШР), що дозволили надати повний набір широкосмугових послуг зв’язку і мовлення, звільнити користувачів від проводової залежності. СШР являють собою напрям радіодоступу, що динамічно розвивається; вони дозволяють створювати фіксовану безпроводову мережу масштабу міста, району і ре­гіону, а також можуть інтегруватися в мультимедійну високошвидкісну кабельну мережу як радіозасіб «останньої милі».
