However, in all these works, problems are considered that are related mainly to equations of classical types studied in courses of mathematical physics. Recently, papers have appeared that solve various problems associated with fourth-order partial differential equations, obtained from the practice. Along with it, there are numerous applied problems described by third-order equations or the so-called equations of variable type. Despite the fact that the initial-boundary value problems for such equations are studied well, but there are only a few works [12–18] in which control problems in such systems are investigated. In this paper, the minimum problem of the quadratic functional for the initial-boundary value problem for a third-order linear equation is studied. First, using the Fourier method, a representation of the solution of the initial-boundary value problem is obtained, and then the optimal control problem is reduced to a conditional extremum problem and its solution is obtained in the form of a series. На сьогодні є велика кількість наукових статей і монографій, присвячених різним задачам теорії керування в системах, що описуються рівняннями у частинних похідних і досить добре викладені в [1–6] та в багатьох інших наукових статтях. Однак у всіх цих роботах розглядаються задачі, що пов’язані, в основному, з рівняннями класичних типів, що вивчаються в математичній фізиці. Останнім часом з’явилися роботи [7, 8], в яких вирішуються пов’язані з рівняннями у частинних похідних четвертого порядку різні задачі, отримані на практиці. Є численні прикладні задачі, що описані рівняннями третього порядку або так званими рівняннями змінного типу. Незважаючи на те що початково-крайові задачі для таких рівнянь вивчено досить повно [9], є декілька робіт [12–18], в яких вивчаються задачі керування у таких системах. У даній роботі розглянуто задачу мінімуму квадратичного функціонала для початково-крайової задачі для лінійного рівняння третього порядку. Спочатку, застосовуючи метод Фур’є, отримано уявлення щодо розв’язання початково-крайової задачі, а далі задачу оптимального керування зведено до задачі на умовний екстремум та отримано її рішення у вигляді ряду.
