An analysis of the global market of metal castings in 2019-2020 is presented. Force majeure due to the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected global foundry production due to reduced demand for castings from end producers. It was predicted that positive changes should be expected in the near future. However, Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022 will make a significant correction in the development of the global economy and, consequently, in the functioning of the global foundry industry. Trends in the production of metal castings in the Top 10 countries of the world foundry rating are considered. China remains the global leader in the global castings market with a share of 49.2 % in 2020, second place behind India (11.3 %) and third place behind the United States (9.7 %). Together, these three countries produced 69.2 % of the world’s metal castings in 2020. All “Top 10” countries in 2020 received 93.6 million tons of Lithuania or 88.7 % of world production. Compared to 2019, the volume of their casting production decreased by 2.3 %, while global casting production decreased by 3.9 %. It is believed that the further development of the global foundry industry will be the automation and use of computer technology to improve work processes. In terms of industries, the largest consumer of castings is the automotive industry. At the same time, world automotive statistics show that during 2017…2021, world car production decreased by an average of 3.7 %. It is expected that the estimated production of aluminum castings in the world in 2021 may be 15.5…16 million tons against 16.0 million tons in 2020. It should be noted that the world leaders in car production are Asia and Oceania, including China. Leading engineers - foundries of the Chinese company ZHY Casting outlined their vision for the further development of the foundry industry. First of all, it is the training of highly qualified personnel and the creation of a platform for the exchange of scientific developments between universities. In addition, it is proposed to actively use information technology, mechanization, automation and robotics of technological processes. In combination, this will increase the competitiveness of Chinese metal casting.
