Thermal analysis of liquid cast iron involves obtaining in digital format a thermal cooling curve of the cast iron sample to be analyzed and cooling curves of reference samples of cast iron with predetermined properties and calculation using the criterion of recognizing the degree of similarity of the curve comparison form. The detected lowest value of the recognition criterion from the whole set of reference samples of cast iron is accepted as reliable for the sample of cast iron to be analyzed. The disadvantages of the known methods of thermal derivative rapid analysis (TDA) of the quality of cast iron, which is smelted in induction crucible furnaces, are considered. In particular, the known methods of thermal analysis of liquid cast iron include the exclusion from the analysis of the site of eutectic curing of cast iron on the cooling curves. The main provisions of the system (method) of thermal derivative analysis of liquid cast iron developed at the Institute of Physics and Technology of Metals and Alloys of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (patent № UA 113333 С2) are presented. The method involves rapid analysis of the quality of liquid cast iron directly near the melting furnace, control and adjustment if necessary of its chemical composition at the stage of melting. Rapid analysis includes estimating the similarity of the shape of thermal cooling curves (TCO) of liquid cast iron with pre-obtained reference curves (RCO), which contain information about the chemical composition and properties of cast iron. Ways to improve the methods and techniques of thermal analysis of liquid cast iron are proposed. A formula has been developed to calculate the proximity index of TKO and RKO curves, which takes into account the inequality of the influence of different stages of cooling during the crystallization of cast iron on its properties. The coefficient of influence of each section on the cooling curve of liquid cast iron is introduced into the formula for calculating the index of proximity of the TKO curve to the reference curve of RKO of cast iron to be analyzed. Recommendations for the choice of quantitative values of this coefficient are given. Recommendations for the choice of quantitative values of this coefficient are given.
