Description
Summary:The reconstruction and modernisation of Ukraine’s national economy urgently require the supply of industry with thin sheet products made from ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including special steels and alloys. This task can be successfully addressed through the application of advanced twin-roll casting technology, which enables the production of thin sheet products directly from the melt. The technological process of twin-roll casting provides the most economical production of rolled metal in terms of material consumption, while significantly reducing labour and energy costs, which is particularly important under current conditions. In addition to these advantages, the yield of acceptable products is increased, and owing to the formation of a fine-grained structure and a substantial reduction in segregation, a new and higher level of metal quality is achieved. This creates opportunities for manufacturing wrought metal products from steels and special alloys that are difficult or even impossible to produce using conventional methods. The resource-efficient and environmentally friendly twin-roll casting–rolling process has been implemented for a long time in many countries worldwide, due to its high technical and economic advantages, strong market demand, compliance with modern metal market requirements, and its wide range of applications across various industrial sectors. It is also important that twin-roll casting–rolling technology ensures an optimal balance between product quality and production cost, which determines the global trend in the development of this technology. Research aimed at improving twin-roll casting–rolling technology and, consequently, at producing thin, defect-free rolled products of enhanced quality is of high relevance worldwide and contributes to the widespread industrial adoption of this technology.
