Description of the oxygen-deficient habitats with inhabiting them microaerophilic benthic and plankton communities and characteristics of anoxic habitats are given in a form of discussion. It was shown that hypoxia and anoxia are fundamentally different states of marine environment, defining the various strategies of life or survival of eukaryotic organisms. At the same time, definite contradictions and ambiguity have been revealed for the current estimates of possibility of the strict anaerobic existence of aquatic eukaryotes. Selected problematic questions of using the available methods for studying marine redox-systems have been analyzed. Проведено систематизація та аналіз основних досягнень останніх років з вивчення глибоководних зон гіпоксії і аноксії Середземного і Чорного морів, западині Каріако і деяких інших районів Світового океану. У дискусійній формі дано опис кисень-дефіцитних біотопів та мікороаерофільних угруповань бентосу і планктону що їх населяють, приведені характеристики аноксичних місцеперебувань. Показано, що гіпоксія і аноксія є принципово різними станами морського середовища, що визначають різні стратегії розвитку чи виживання еукаріотних організмів. При цьому виявлені протиріччя і невизначеність в оцінках можливості існування облігатної анаеробності еукаріот. Розглянуто проблемні питання у використанні сучасних методів дослідження морських редокссистем.
