Резюме:Main periods of scientific history of the Department of Radiation and Chemical Biology (DRChB) of IBSS NAS Ukraine are described including its contributions to development of marine radioecology, radio-chemo-ecology, molismology and marine biophysics on basis of principles of general biology, biogeochemistry and eco-ethics during the period of 1956 – 2011. The priority of IBSS NAS of Ukraine (initially SBS Ac. Sc. USSR) in organization of the very first radioecological studies in the Black Sea and in Mediterranean basin, as well as in the world earliest systematized monographic description and substantiation of conception and problems of marine radioecology (1956 – 1966) is shown. The contribution to defense the Black Sea against foreign proposals to turn this sea into radioactive waste mortuary have been made in 1950’s. At one time with organizations of many countries, the necessity to stop the nuclear weapon tests in the open environments (1960 – 1963) and the removal of solid radioactive wastes to the oceans’ floor (1984) were grounded. The response of the Black Sea to Chernobyl accident has been studied in 1986 – 2011. Development of several new important scientific daughter directions is stated. It is shown that, contrary to expectations, the anoxic Black Sea water after oxidation of hydrogen sulfide behaves as highly productive medium for marine algae (1984 – 2010). Advance of the up-to-date radiogeochronological methods has allowed dating of the deep-sea sediments which are unique “bank” in anoxic sediments of the Black Sea of latent living spores of aquatic and terrestrial oxibionts (2007 – 2008). Outstanding researches and generalizations have been fulfilled in new priority area for the IBSS – the study of biogeochemical and ecological role of the recently found large-scale phenomena: methane gas seeps in the Black Sea (1989 – 2011).
