The species dominates in the band of depths, adjacent with the hydrogen sulfide zone. Not only M. phaseolina community, but also enclaves of accompanying species communities, playing the role of dominants in locations of rarefied phaseolina habitations are present in “phaseolina silt” (60-120 m) zone. Possible ecological reasons, limiting the width of phaseolina community belt are being discussed. This community is the last macrobenthic one in the zone of growing hypoxia, near the sulfide zone boundery. Only meio- and microbenthos communities are located more deep. Описано особливості просторового розподілу фазеоліни Modiolula phaseolina (Phillippi, 1844) у Чорному морі. Вид домінує у поясi глибин, що межує із сірководневою зоною. У зоні «фазеолінового мулу» (60-120 м) присутні не тільки угруповання M. phaseolina, але й анклави угруповань супутніх видів, що виступають у ролі домінуючих у місцях розріджених поселень фазеоліни. Обговорюються можливі екологічні причини, що обмежують ширину пояса угруповання фазеоліни. Це угруповання є останнім угрупованням макробентосу в зоні зростаючої гіпоксії, на межі сульфідної зони. Глибше розташовані тільки угруповання мейо- та мікробентосу.
