It has been stated, that the flow from discharging syphon of mollusk did not disturb the boundary between two layers, even when it was located only 10 cm over mussel, with difference in two layers salinity not exceeding 0.5 ‰. Mussels clean from suspension only the lowest water layer. Ecological consequences have been discussed. |

Ілова форма мідії Mytilus galloprovincialis мешкає у Чорному морі на глибинах, де знаходиться стрибок плотності, викликаний сезонним термоклином. В лабораторії відтворювали стрибок плотності (за допомогою “двошарової води” по солоності) та перевіряли ефект фільтрації мідій. Виявлено, що струя з вихідного сіфону молюска не руйнує границю між двома шарами, навіть коли вона знаходиться усього у 10 см над мідією, причому різниця солоності двох шарів не перевищувала 0.5 ‰. Мідія очищує від взвісі тільки нижній шар води. Обговорені екологічні наслідки.
