Стислий огляд з історії розвитку досліджень біологічної океанографії в інституті (до 135 річниці СБС-ІнБПМ). На відзнаку від морської біології, націленої на пізнання власне біологічних законів, біологічна океанографія вивчає відповідні аспекти існування океану та його великих екосистем. Показано, що найбільш важливі роботи напрямку, що обговорюється, зроблені з допомогою сучасного судна та сучасного обладнання. Перспективи біологічної океанографії в інституті тісно пов’язані з майбутнім наукового судна “Професор Водяницкий”.
