The major criterion attributed to these suppositions is their ability to model not only homeostatic societal development, but also to target societal crises. Synergetics, or theory of self-organization, is suggested as a methodological tool for designing such models. Сучасний етап української суспільної історії, який може бути кваліфікований як стан тривалої кризи, потребує для свого осмислення нових теоретичних поглядів на процеси соціальних змін. Основною вимогою, що висувається до цих концептуалізацій, є їх здатність адекватно моделювати не лише гомеостатичні, а й кризові стани суспільного розвитку. Методологічне підґрунтя для пошуку таких моделей пропонує нова міждисциплінарна наука — синергетика, або теорія самоорганізації.
