The overall meaning and role of classification in natural sciences is considered as well as historical periods of its development and constituent operations, their analysis is presented. The authors underline the necessity of creation of polyethic systemic and logical classifications that depict multidimensionality and variability of characteristics requiring application of multivariant statistics methods (factorial, cluster, discriminant, ordinate analysis). Application of some classification operations based on different objects is presented. Розглянуто всебічне значення і суть класифікації у природничих науках, історичні етапи її розвитку, основні складові операції, наведено їх аналіз. Наголошено на необхідності створення політетичних системологічних класифікацій, які відображають багатовимірність і варіабельність ознак, що потребує використання методів мультиваріантної статистики (факторний, кластерний, дискримінантний, ординаційний аналіз тощо). Показано застосування окремих операцій класифікації на прикладі різних об'єктів.
