Visnyk of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine| Резюме: | Structurally nonhomogeneous solids, i.e., the ones exhibiting spatial variation of all or some material properties, present the interest for the scientists and engineers in both academia and industry. For over a hundred years, the mechanical responses of nonhomogeneous solids inspire numerous attempts of the mathematical modeling and the development of efficient methods of their analysis. This report addresses the basic aspects of the development in the mechanics of nonhomogeneous solids along with the main achievements and challenges. Special attention is given to the results gained in this direction at the Pidstryhach Institute for Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The perspectives of such research are briefly overviewed. |
