In the article, the author reflects, why in the modern Russian Federation, at the state level, the collapse of the USSR is considered the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe" and why an unbiased study of the causes of the Soviet Union’s collapse, awareness of its historical inevitability and the impossibility of reviving the imperial past are so important today.
