Nuclear and Radiation SafetyРезюме: | An important element of safety is scientific studies and engineering achievements aimed at improving design solutions and increasing the reliability of NPP systems and components. The essential service water supply system is a support NPP safety system, whose reliability, safety, performance of functions and efficiency are influenced by the established water chemistry. Taking into account that the essential service water supply system provides the reactor compartment and standby diesel generators with cooling water, maintenance of the water chemistry for this system may impact the operation of other safety systems and systems important to safety. Modification of the water chemistry for the essential service water supply system with the introduction of new reagents can impact safety due to the corrosive impact on structural materials, therefore, new methods for corrective treatment of the water chemistry should be implemented in compliance with the requirements for modifications of nuclear installations and safety assessment procedure. The article describes the stages of implementing new methods for corrective (biocidal) treatment of cooling water for safety systems at Ukrainian NPPs in accordance with regulatory documents on nuclear and radiation safety and environment protection activities in force in Ukraine. The effort contains the results of the conducted hydrobiological monitoring, which justifies the need for biocidal treatment, results of determining the effective dose of biocides, corrosion tests with the determination of the impact of reagents on structural materials of the essential service water supply system and modes for technological implementation of the treatment. According to the results of experimental studies, the proposed biocides are effective against biological impacts available in the essential service water supply system, their use does not lead to an increase in the corrosion rate of structural materials. Experimental studies confirmed safety of NPP operation, environmental friendliness of using the proposed biocides and possibility to increase the reliability of process equipment operation due to reducing biological impacts. |
