The authors review the main lessons of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident and the liquidation of its consequences in the area of the nuclear reactors safety operation, any major accident management, liquidation accident consequences criteria, emergency procedures, preventative measures and treatment irradiated victims, the monitoring methods etc. It is shown that a large-scale radiation accident causes serious consequences, exceeding the bounds of country, where it happened, and the consequences may directly or indirectly have an influence on the countries, located far away from the place the accident occurred. That’s why the special emphasis is put on the questions of the emergency respons and the antiaccidental measures planning in frame of international cooperation program. У статті розглядаються основні уроки аварії на Чорнобильській АЕС і ліквідації її наслідків у галузях безпеки експлуатації ядерних реакторів, управління тяжкими аваріями, критеріїв ліквідації наслідків аварії, аварійних процедур, засобів профілактики й лікування потерпілих від опромінення осіб, методів моніторингу тощо. Показано, що велика радіаційна аварія незмінно породжує проблеми, що далеко виходять за межі держави, у якій вона відбулася, а її наслідки можуть прямо або побічно вплинути на багато країн, що знаходяться на значних відстанях від місця виникнення аварії. Тому основна увага в програмах міжнародного співробітництва приділяється питанням аварійного реагування й планування протиаварійних заходів.
