Summary:The device for spent fuel burnup control (DBC) is designed for instrumental burnup control of spent fuel assemblies (SFA) of RBMK-1000 using software and hardware. The instrumental burnup control is a process operation performed with SFA in the spent fuel storage facility No. 1 to confirm presence of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) in fuel assemblies and estimate SNF burnup. During irradiation of nuclear fuel in the reactor, mass of fissile material is reduced and nuclides absorbing neutrons are formed, which reduces the effective enriched fuel in comparison with the initial. At a burnup of 40 MW • d / kg (U), SNF has about half the efficiency of enrichment compared to the initial, and this fact reduces the degree of conservatism in assessing the subcriticality of spent fuel in the storage facility. The paper presents the purpose and scope, specifications, structure and operation of SBC hardware, as well as theoretical foundations of SNF burnup control.
