Description
Summary:Under Ukraine’s participation in the INPRO project, comparative assessment of NFC options based on promising III+ and IV reactors was carried out. Assessment criteria include levelized cost of energy, consumption of natural uranium and accumulation of spent fuel. The assessment considers expected power consumption in Ukraine by 2100 defined by the Institute of Economy and Forecasting, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It uses the MESSAGE code model of Ukrainian power system developed within IAEA cooperation. The paper reviews prospects of nuclear generation in Ukraine based on innovative supercritical water reactors with simultaneous decrease in spent nuclear fuel accumulation and in the levelized cost of energy generated by NPPs.
