Nuclear and Radiation SafetyРезюме: | The severe accident, devastating explosions and catastrophic environmental effects at the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power plant were caused, among other things, by lack of personnel training to manage such events. As acknowledged TEPCO, the situation was a complete surprise and personnel could not prevent the disaster despite all their heroic actions.
The Fukushima-Daiichi lessons show the need to improve the validity and effectiveness of actions on severe accident management to avoid catastrophic environmental consequences as far as possible.
The paper discusses current aspects in the development of severe accident management strategies for vessel-type nuclear reactors. Principles for forming lists of severe accident management strategies based on initiating events and failures of critical safety functions, leading to nuclear fuel damage. |
