Description
Summary:Features of the Shelter that affect selection of methods and technologies for Shelter radioactive waste management are reviewed in the paper. The main conditions and specific requirements of radiation safety protection in the removal of fuel-containing materials (FCMs) are analyzed. It is shown that all FCMs may be unloaded in parallel with Shelter dismantling by segregation of FCMs from all other types of radioactive materials. An alternative option of FCM removal without dismantling is proposed and discussed. The assessment of timing, cost and doses for dry and wet technologies of FCM removal is presented.
