Ukraine has a developed nuclear infrastructure and was an initiator in developing and accepting the IAEA Recommendations on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities and Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material. Taking into account that the fundamental principles of physical protection of nuclear material and nuclear facilities set forth in the Amendment are the quintessence of physical protection standards, all efforts are made in recent years to implement these principles at the level of operating organizations, other licenses and state. The main steps were to implement these principles in physical protection legislation and create a state system for physical protection and upgrading of physical protection of materials and facilities. This paper focuses on individual threats and risks in nuclear energy which are dealt with by ensuring physical protection and taking specific measures tо implement each fundamental principle and also a brief overview of physical security in Ukraine. Україна, маючи розвинену інфраструктуру ядерної енергетики, була одним з ініціаторів розробки та прийняття Рекомендацій МАГАТЕ «Фізичний захист ядерного матеріалу і ядерних установок» та Поправки до Конвенції про фізичний захист ядерного матеріалу. Беручи до уваги, що основоположні принципи фізичного захисту ядерного матеріалу та ядерних установок, які викладені у Поправці, є квінтесенцією норм фізичного захисту, протягом останніх років всі зусилля прикладаються до імплементації цих принципів як на рівні експлуатуючих організацій, інших ліцензіатів, так і на рівні держави. Основними кроками стало впровадження цих принципів у законодавство з фізичного захисту, а також створення державної системи фізичного захисту й модернізація систем фізичного захисту установок і об’єктів. Ця стаття присвячена розгляду окремих загроз і ризиків у сфері використання ядерної енергії, основним інструментом у протидії яким є забезпечення фізичного захисту та конкретних заходів з упровадження кожного з основоположних принципів, а також дуже стислому огляду стану ядерної захищеності в Україні.
