The paper presents an overview of changes and trends in the energy policy of the European Union during the recent years, and shows the impact of the energy security issues on the development of nuclear power industry in Europe. Further development of the nuclear power industry as a low carbon source of energy is considered in the context of a comprehensive approach to the struggle against the climate change. In addition, a short overview of the new energy strategy of Ukraine until 2035 is presented, which defines a complex of large-scale reforms in the energy sector in consideration of the European approaches and the EU energy strategy. Проаналізовано зміни та тенденції в енергетичній політиці Євросоюзу протягом останніх років, показано вплив проблем енергетичної безпеки на розвиток ядерної енергетики в Європі. Подальший розвиток ядерної енергетики як низьковуглецевого джерела енергії розглянуто в контексті комплексного підходу до боротьби зі зміною клімату. Наведено короткий огляд нової Енергетичної стратегії України до 2035 року, яка визначає комплекс масштабних реформ в енергетичному секторі з урахуванням європейських підходів та енергетичної стратегії ЄС.
