The twelfth day of the war continues. Of a real, full-scale war.
Many of us remember World War II, though we were children at the time. Never, even in the worst nightmare, could we imagine that we would have to go through the madness of war and unprovoked attack on our country again.
Once again, we are experiencing the bombing of residential areas, the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people, and the deaths of many civilians, including children.
However, there is another disturbing circumstance. The Russian Federation troops, upon orders of Russia’s leadership, seize nuclear power facilities and cynically declare further such actions.
This is happening the first time in the world’s history. This situation can lead to unpredictable and catastrophic consequences for vast areas and millions of people.
Nuclear power plant (NPP) staff are under pressure and currently undergoing severe physiological and psychological stress. We should not be reassured that no NPP incidents have occurred at the moment owing to the professionalism and responsible actions of the staff.
The threat is exacerbated by the fact that none can predict further potential inappropriate actions of the Russian troops.
We, long-service nuclear employees, being fully aware of the responsibility for potential consequences:
strongly support the statement of the IAEA Director General in his address to the IAEA Board of Governors convened on 2 March 2022 in connection with the situation in Ukraine;
appeal to the embassies of all countries, including those with nuclear energy facilities, to express their strong position to prevent further such actions in the civilized world;
appeal to the nuclear community of the countries that have nuclear power facilities to take all necessary actions and measures to persuade their leadership to make all possible and real de-escalation efforts in the location area of the nuclear facilities;
appeal to all reasonable and sensible nuclear workers of the Russian Federation (sincerely hope that there are such individuals and they are not blinded by the Kremlin’s propaganda) to express their position and prevent unpredictable progression of the events.

Триває дванадцятий день війни. Справжньої, повномасштабної війни. Багато хто з нас пам’ятає Другу світову війну, хоча в ті часи ми були ще дітьми. Ніколи, навіть у найстрашнішому сні, ми не могли уявити, що доведеться знову переживати божевілля війни і неспровокований напад на нашу країну. Знову ми переживаємо бомбардування житлових кварталів, евакуацію сотень тисяч людей і загибель великої кількості мирних жителів, у тому числі і дітей. Але є ще одна сумна особливість. Війська РФ за наказом керівництва своєї країни здійснюють захоплення об’єктів атомної енергетики і цинічно заявляють про подальше вчинення таких дій. Це відбувається вперше в історії світу. Ситуація, що склалася може призвести до непередбачуваних та катастрофічних наслідків для величезних територій та мільйонів людей. Персонал АЕС перебуває в стресовому стані та в цей час витримує серйозні фізіологічні та психологічні навантаження. Нас не повинно заспокоювати те, що на цей момент інцидентів на АЕС немає завдяки професіоналізму та відповідальним діям персоналу. Загроза посилюється тим, що ніхто не може передбачити можливі подальші неадекватні дії військ РФ. Ми, ветерани атомної енергетики, усвідомлюючи відповідальність за можливі наслідки: категорично підтримуємо заяву генерального директора МАГАТЕ в його зверненні до Ради керуючих МАГАТЕ, скликаної 2 березня 2022 року у зв’язку із ситуацією в Україні; звертаємося до посольств усіх країн світу, зокрема тих, що мають об’єкти атомної енергетики, висловити свою рішучу позиці. щодо недопущення таких дій в цивілізованому світі; звертаємося до атомної спільноти країн, що мають об’єкти атомної енергетики, вжити всі необхідні дії та заходи, щоб переконати керівництво цих держав робити усі можливі і реальні дії з деескалації в зоні розташування ядерних об’єктів; звертаємося до всіх адекватних та здатних мислити працівників атомної галузі РФ (щиро сподіваємося, що такі ще залишилися і не засліплені пропагандою кремля) висловити свою позицію і не допустити непередбачуваного розвитку подій.
