Вивчено вплив забруднення ґрунту сполуками заліза та хрому на поглинальну здатність кореневих систем декоративних квіткових рослин. Встановлено скорочення загальної поверхні кореневих систем у всіх дослідних видів відносно контролю, при чому робоча поверхня зменшується сильніше, ніж недіяльна. Зменшення розміру робочої поверхні порівняно з контролем зумовлено не тільки пригніченням росту коренів, зменшенням їх довжини, а й зменшенням довжини та ширини кореневих волосків, їх кількості на одиницю поверхні коренів.
