В умовах півдня степової зони України (Херсонська обл.) Salvia officinalis L. проходить усі фази розвитку, добре розмножується насінням, дає хороший урожай, містить в усіх органах ефірну олію (до 0,62%), до складу якої входять 48 компонентів. Основними з них є α- і β-туйон (39,16%), 1,8-цінеол (16,80%), борнеол (12,69%) та ін. S. officinalis можна успішно вирощувати в Херсонській обл. M.M.
