His scientific activity vore than 50 years was connected with Institute of Plant Protection of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. During 25 years he headed by Laboratory or Department. A.M. Cherniy carried out ecological evaluation of codling moth population in Ukraine. He noted to build the program of genetic struggle with her in the gardens should take into account of pest population’s different reproductive ability. He worked out the system of pheromone monitoring of pest populations of agricultural crops. It provides an opportunity to monitor the dynamics of their development and plan the implementation of protective measures. He substantiated the advisability of using insect vital regulators against lepidopteran pests of the apple orchard. White cabbage against a harmful entomocomplex (cabbage scoop, cabbage and turnip whites, cabbage moth) and potato against colorado potato beetle it has been recommended to treat with preparations based on chitin synthesis inhibitors. A.M. Cherniy substantiated the conceptual foundations of integrated orchard protection as part of agroecosystem management technology. |

Черній Фнатолій Мусійович є одним з засновників нового напряму досліджень – управління поведінкою, розвитком й розмноженням комах і обмеження їх чисельності вибірково діючими синтетичними біорегуляторами. Його наукова діяльність протягом більш як 50 років була пов'язана з Інститутом захисту рослин НААН України. Майже 25 років він завідував лабораторією технології застосування біологічно активних речовин, пізніше – відділом екології і технології застосування ентомофагів та БАР. Черній А.М. здійснював екологічну оцінку популяцій яблуневої плодожерки в Україні. Виявив, що побудова програми генетичної боротьби з нею в садах різних кліматичних зон слід проводити з урахуванням репродуктивної здатності популяції шкідника. Він розробив систему феромоного моніторингу популяцій шкідників сільськогосподарських рослин, що дала можливість спостерігати за динамікою їх розвитку і планувати проведення захисних заходів. Крім того, А.М. Черній обґрунтував доцільність застосування регуляторів життєдіяльності комах проти лускокрилих шкідників яблуневого саду; капусти білокачанної проти ряду шкідників (капустяна совка, капустяна і ріпна білянки, капустяна міль). В заходах боротьби проти колорадського жука він рекомендував обробляти картоплю препаратами на основі інгібіторів синтезу хітину. А.М.
