Зроблено спробу оцінити вміст радіоактивних ізотопів у вугіллі, яке видобуто в Україні в 1990 році. Показано, що, при обсягах видобутку сотень мільйонів тонн, кількість радіоактивних речовин, які видобуваються разом з вугіллям, сягає сотень і більше тонн, що потребує глибокого вивчення процесів їх розсіювання, накопичення в навколишньому середовищі та впливу на біосферу України.
