Резюме:In the order Ukraine has more than 3.5 billion tons of balance reserves of brown coal, whose significant portion (1.4 billion tons) can be extracted in the effective open way.Besides the use as a fuel for the power and housing sectors, brown coal is a valuable raw material for chemical industry. At present, the lignite industry is concentrated in the Alexandrian area and is in a neglected state, since most facilities are put out of action. Moreover, the extraction of lignite is stopped since 2009.The article’s goal is to draw attention to the critical state, in which the lignite industry in Ukraine is now.By analyzing and forecasting the development of the Alexandria lignite region, the ways to withdraw the brown coal industry out of the crisis and to restore the design parameters of enterprises are determined. By seeking the consumers of brown coal, it is necessary to renew the building and the technical upgrading of lignite plants, etc.If funds and consumers are available, the brown coal mining on cuts in the Alexandrian geological-industrial area can be rapidly increased to 3–4 million tons per year.
